Case study · Unity Mutual
A new website for Unity Mutual, built around its members.
The challenge
Unity Mutual, the financial services arm of the Oddfellows, needed a website as clear and trustworthy as the savings and investment products it offers.
As a mutual, Unity Mutual puts its members first, and the website had to do the same. It needed to work for people of every age and ability, be easy for the team to manage and connect securely to the systems behind it, all within the rules of financial services regulation.
What we did
-
Discovery and specification
Workshops with marketing, operations, customer service and compliance, alongside user research and competitor analysis, produced a full functional and technical specification before any code was written.
-
Design for every member
We built personas and mapped the key journeys, from researching a product to applying and paying online, then designed an accessible component library with a toolbar that lets visitors adjust text and spacing.
-
Integrations
Two CRM integrations keep enquiries and member details consistent across systems, and a secure payment gateway handles top-ups and investments.
-
Online applications
We extended Umbraco Forms with custom fields, eligibility rules such as age checks and ISA year boundaries, postcode lookups and validation in the browser and on the server.
-
Test, launch and support
Functional, accessibility, cross-device, performance and security testing came before a phased launch, followed by CMS training and ongoing support.
The result
-

CRM systems integrated with the website
“The fantastic designers and developers who turned my extensive brief (52 page PowerPoint of screenshots and commentary at last count) into a reality, and solved problems I didn’t even know existed.”
